Born
January 19, 2014, out of our own over-achieving dogs Penny and Ruckus,
we hoped for a strong dog with a great work ethic - and we got him!
Orion, also known as "Mr BIGNESS" is a powerful dog with an incredible
working drive.
Orion earned his Working Team Dog title in the
winter of 2014-15. He brings "umpff" to the team with his hard pulling,
power and stamina. Even on rest stops, he stays standing, leaning into his harness, ready to go!
In the fall of 2015, Orion earned his Working Pack Dog title along with his Aunt Scorch.
He hardly seemed to notice he was carrying a full weight (27#) pack,
and pulled for every step of the four 10+ mile hikes, trying to get us
to walk faster!
His
working drive also shows in the weight pull chute, and Orion started
pulling at the advanced/excellent level soon after starting
competition. He earned his United Weight Puller title in three pulls
and his Working Weight Pull Dog title in 2015 - before he was two years
old. At the Malamute National show in 2015, Orion stunned us by placing
3rd in both the Regional and National pulls, out of 19-20 dogs in his
weight class! Many of the dogs he out pulled are experienced pullers
known in our breed for their excellence - stiff competition!
Orion
is not a show dog, but stunned us again by placing 2nd in the 2015
Working Dog Showcase in Sturbridge, Massachusetts at the National show.
There was stiff competition with a lot of great dogs, so this was a
real honor. Orion carried on a family tradition as his father, Ruckus, and grandfather, Major, both placed in previous Showcases. Orion's uncle Huck won the Showcase in 2013.
Orion is a big sweet lug of a dog with tremendous power and drive, and we love having him on our team and in our lives.
