Howler
earned his call name as a puppy, when his distinctive voice sounded
like a raccoon's trill. Born October 22, 2003, a puppy in the very
first WinterStarz litter, we were delighted with his resemblance to his
sire Procyon and so named him "Sun". Howler is the first conformation
Champion bred by WinterStar Farm. He has completed Beginner and Intermediate Obedience
and enjoys competing in Rally.
Howler is a
very even tempered dog, good with other dogs and crowds. In 2009 he
attended our local Cub Scout meeting with Tim for a demonstration on dogsledding, and thoroughly enjoyed the total bedlam of 30 exuberant and enthusiastic Cub
Scouts tearing around and surrounding him. He is a powerful sled dog
and works the best in the wheel position, although we also run him in
dual lead.
Howler finished his conformation Championship in 2007 with three major wins. He also took Reserve Winners at the large Malamute Specialty Show in Waukesha, WI in July 2007. Howler earned his WTD (Working Team Dog) title in April
2007, his RN (Rally Novice) title in September 2009 and his WPD (Working Pack Dog) title in December 2009. The Alaskan Malamute Club of America recognized Howler as the #3 Malamute in Rally Novice in 2009. At the 2010 Alaskan Malamute Club of America Regional/National show in Denver, Colorado, Howler won the Working Dog Class and received his Award of Merit, under Judge Jean Fournier. He also placed 4th in the Working Dog Showcase under Judges Mark Johnson, Bob Sencenbaugh and Mike Sullivan. In 2011, Howler started his weight pull career - at the age of seven and a half! He quickly caught on and earned his WWPD (Working Weight Pull Dog) title within a few months.
In October 2012, Howler was awarded the All Around Alaskan Malamute title at the Alaskan Malamute Club of America's annual National banquet, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Howler is the fourth malamute in history to be honored with an AAAM. The third AAAM title was awarded to his brother Major!
Howler has been genetically tested for long coat and is S/S, which means he does not carry the long coat gene and cannot sire any long coat puppies. Please Contact Us to inquire about stud service.
